Public Programs and Services Coordinator
Canadian Diabetes Association - Winnipeg, MB
Reporting to the Manager, Programs and Partnerships for SK/MB/NU, the Public Programs and Services Coordinator (PPS) will coordinate, implement, deliver and evaluate programs, activities and events for people at risk and living with diabetes. The PPS Coordinator identifies opportunities for outreach and partnerships with like minded organizations and community groups to reach people with diabetes. The PPSCoordinator is also responsible for the recruitment, development, coordination, and recognition of volunteers to support programming. This role will be based out of the Regional Leadership Centre in Winnipeg, with strong emphasis on rural development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promote and deliver programs (Expos, webinars, workshops) for people with diabetes in Manitoba with a focus on rural development
  • Identify and develop relationships with Rural Regional Health Authorities, health care professionals, Certified Educators (nurses, pharmacist, dieticians, etc) for community outreach activities.
  • Identify opportunities, build and maintain relationships with organizations that hold similar awareness and education mandates.
  • Work with high risk groups and First Nations communities to identify key leaders in their communities to build relationships, support community mobilization and facilitate partnerships.
  • Coordinate volunteers to support public awareness events, tradeshows, health fairs, conferences etc. throughout the region
  • Work with the Volunteer Engagement Team to develop a regional volunteer recruitment strategy
  • Identify regional volunteer requirements and develop a volunteer training program commensurate with the required skills and duties of various roles and projects. Implement the Association’s Volunteer Training program with all regional volunteers where appropriate.
  • Maintain Constituency management databases and prepare activity reports as required.
  • Maintain the records and secure files for all volunteers, including individual volunteer applications, references, police record checks, role assignments and evaluations in accordance with CDA policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and databases
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to facilitate, resolve conflict and coach others
  • Knowledge of the principles of volunteer development and experience in volunteer management
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and the ability to translate these concepts to foster positive working relationships
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends when required
  • Ability to handle competing priorities, meet deadlines
  • Discretion, tact and good judgment with sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Recruiting, screening, hiring and training skills
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Post secondary education, preferably in the Education or Health Care field
  • Experience in program delivery, project management and volunteer management
  • Sales management experience an asset
  • Experience in public speaking, preferably to diverse age and cultural audiences
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license, access to a vehicle and be able to pass criminal record check as required.
