The Hansard Branch of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly is responsible for the verbatim record of the debates while the Legislative Assembly is in session. The Branch consists of skilled, dedicated employees working to produce a high-quality document as a part of Manitoba's history. We are currently recruiting for casual positions where the incumbent would work on any one of three shifts with start times of 2:15pm, 4pm or 9:15pm.
Qualifications:
 The following qualifications are considered essential:
  • Strong English language skills including excellent ability with spelling, punctuation and sentence structure
  • Excellent typing skills and experience using computer software
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with colleagues, supervisors and managers
  • The ability to positively contribute to a team environment
  • Ability to handle stress while achieving a set deadline within a specific timeframe
  • Must be available to work flexible hours while the Legislature is in session.
 
The following qualification is considered an asset:
  • Interest and knowledge of current events
 

Duties:
Under the supervision of a production supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for either transcribing or proofreading the Debates and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and its committees.  The incumbent is compensated based on the duties that they are assigned.  This is casual employment with work periods typically occurring from March to June and November to December of each year.

The Arts and Cultural Industries Association of Manitoba (ACI Manitoba) strengthens, represents and connects Manitoba’s creative communities and industries. We are a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the arts and creative industries of Manitoba and helping to develop sustainable careers for those working in arts and culture. We provide opportunities for career, entrepreneurial and business skill development through our various workshops, courses and seminars, and through mentoring and shared service provision. ACI Manitoba has established 245 McDermot –a professional coworking space in the heart of Winnipeg’s Exchange District where creative people and organizations come together to work, share and grow.

Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the ACI Manitoba Communications Coordinator position is to implement communications, marketing and publicity strategies that promote the organization and its programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator is an important first contact with members, media and the public. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for external communications and marketing for the organization including website updates, email campaigns, and social media content.

Primary Responsibilities:


Marketing and Communications Management

  • Implement and evaluate communications and marketing strategies that promote and raise the public profile of ACI Manitoba and the organization’s programs
  • Draft and edit communications materials including internal forms and documents, letters, emails, and other marketing and communication materials as required.

Web site and Social Media Duties

  • Administer and update ACI Manitoba websites
  • Act as liaison between ACI Manitoba and web designers
  • Publish and  track weekly and monthly electronic newsletters
  • Maintain social media feeds (Facebook and Twitter)
  • Submit workshops to event listings and directories
  • Promote ACI Manitoba activities, program and members to the media through press releases and PSAs

Physical Demands

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computers, telephones, printers, copiers, etc.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • 35 hours per week (occasional weekend and evening work will be required)
  • ACI Manitoba encourages employee development and will provide opportunity for educational opportunity on an ongoing basis. Parameters of such employee development will be at the discretion of the Executive Director and based on the ACI Human Resource policy. 
  • Significant components of this position are self directed
  • ACI Manitoba endeavors to provide support for the arts and creative industries. Our staff works in a collaborative manner in a casual, respectful and professional environment. We value our job descriptions but they do not prevent us from pitching in when something needs doing.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • 2 years experience in communications
  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or related field
  • Knowledge of Manitoba’s arts and creative sector
  • Experience in website content management
  • Ability to thrive in an open concept / collaborative environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to use a wide variety of computer software, including graphic and web-based applications
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time (35 Hours per week); 7 month contract, which may be renewed.
Salary range based on $15 to $17 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Research Assistant
The Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP) is accepting applications for the position of Research Assistant. In this role, you will provide support to the Institute’s Research Directors in the publication of a variety of research materials and organizing policy events. This is a one-year, full-time position based in Montreal, with the possibility to renew.
Responsibilities
As Research Assistant, you will contribute to IRPP’s ongoing research programs on income inequality; aging; immigration; labour markets; and international trade. Specifically, you will:
  • Assist with gathering background material and data to support various projects;
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize academic literature and policy documents;
  • Organize and analyze data and statistics from various sources in a timely fashion; and,
  • Assist with note-taking and prepare materials for events and other activities.
Essential Qualifications
This position requires a motivated and resourceful individual. The ideal candidate takes an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to work, and has strong project management skills and an attention to detail. This job is an ideal fit for a recent university graduate who is looking for relevant work experience and intends to pursue further academic studies in the future.
The successful candidate holds an undergraduate degree or above in a field relevant to public policy analysis (ex.: economics or political science) and is fluently bilingual (French and English). In addition, she/he has the ability to:
  • Access primary data sources for economic and social analysis (including CANSIM, OECD, World Bank, the World Trade Organization), data and material available through various government departments, scholarly databases (such as JSTOR, Google Scholar, SSRN, RePEc), and secondary research sources;
  • Analyze data using various software packages (MS Excel required) and assist with drafting reports and presentations (MS Word and PowerPoint required);
  • Convey complex data simply and visually in figures, tables and maps; and,
  • Write reports in a clear and accessible style.
General knowledge of Canadian political institutions, actors and policy issues is a significant asset.
Salary Range: commensurate with education and relevant work experience, but generally in the range of $33,000 to $36,500 per year.

Web and Communications Assistant

Job Summary
The Institute for Research on Public Policy seeks an assistant to join the communications team. This position reports to the Communications Officer and Editor of Policy Options and provides support for the IRPP’s online content, maintenance of the IRPP Website and other related functions.
Responsibilities
  • Liaise with team members to ensure online content is updated in a timely fashion
  • Monitor new and existing online content to ensure it is consistent with style guidelines
  • Assist with the maintenance of content on irpp.org and policyoptions.irpp.org, using a web-based Content Management System (Word Press) and other tools
  • Manage the Policy Options blog and handle inquiries from contributors
  • Provide support in transferring content from archive Website to new website
Essential Qualifications
Successful applicants will have a minimum of one year web related experience. Must demonstrate attention to detail and have the ability to manage competing priorities. Good understanding of the web and standard conventions is important. Applicants must be fluently bilingual (French and English), possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to operate in a team environment. A background in public policy is preferred.
The following technical skills are required: basic HTML, Photoshop, photo editing and graphic design for use on web, preparing written documents for use online, and the Windows operating system.
Salary Range: commensurate with education and relevant work experience, but generally in the range of $33,000 to $36,500 per year.
