Men are begining to take responsibility for their violence

Open Letter of Invitation to the 2014 Gathering of Men Standing up against Violence towards Aboriginal Women and Children by ecnationtalk on January 17, This letter is a call to action and an open invitation for our brothers, uncles, fathers, grandfathers, and sons to come together and strengthen our campaign to end violence against women and children. On Thursday, February 13th, 2014 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men will meet at the Hotel Grand Pacific in Victoria to stand up for Aboriginal women and children and to speak out against all forms of violence towards them. You are invited to attend this gathering. As part of this day of action we are also inviting Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men across the country to take part in a national One-Day Fast. The purpose of not eating food or drinking water for one day is to honor the women and children in our lives, to strengthen our resolve, and to connect with men across Canada in our commitment to end the violence towards women and children in our communities. We are inviting men across the country to commit to a one-day Fast and to indicate your participation and support by writing your name on the Moose Hide Campaign website at: www.moosehidecampaign.ca. Aboriginal women are three times more likely to experience domestic violence than non-Aboriginal women, and three times more likely than non-Aboriginal women to be killed by someone they know. Too many of our wives, daughters, sisters, aunties, mothers, grandmothers are not safe in their own home. Too many have been murdered or are missing. It is time for us to change this. This cycle of violence came from residential schools, racism against our Peoples, and colonization. It was never in our culture to do violence to the women and children in our families and communities, it was always our responsibility to protect them. Many efforts, projects, and strategies are now under-way throughout the country to change this reality, but we can and need to do more. Silence is not good enough, and simply being a non-abuser is not good enough. We must speak up and take action, and we need to support each other as Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men. The Gathering of Men – Standing up against Violence towards Aboriginal Women and Children, will take place on Thursday, February 13th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Hotel Grand Pacific. At 12:30 pm we will walk to the BC Legislature and hold a Press Conference to speak out publicly against violence towards Aboriginal women and children, and to commit ourselves to action. This invitation is being extended to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal males of all ages in BC First Nations communities, Aboriginal Friendship Centres, colleges and universities, Provincial and Federal government offices, RCMP and municipal police forces, and other Aboriginal organizations. We also extend a warm welcome to our non-Aboriginal brothers who want to stand with us and work together to achieve this vision. Women are also welcome to attend as witnesses. This is a healing journey that we will walk together. Please share this invitation and spread the word. Are you a worry wart?

Do you find yourself worrying a lot? Worrying takes up a lot of time and energy and keeps you from moving in the direction that would help with your worrying. Dr. Wayne Dyer whom I respect a lot says this: "It makes no sense to worry about things you have no control over because there's nothing you can do about them, and why worry about things you do control? The activity of worrying keeps you immobilized." True. But to stop ourselves from worrying is not as easy as it sounds. We seem to be helpless about it. There are however a few tricks you can use to stop yourself from worrying e.g. Joyce Meyer says: When you begin to worry, go find something to do. Get busy being a blessing to someone; do something fruitful. Talking about your problem or sitting alone, thinking about it, does no good; it serves only to make you miserable. Above all else, remember that worrying is totally useless. Worrying will not solve your problem. Joyce Meyer

Reilgious Accommodation in the University offends Women

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/01/13/york_universitys_religious_accommodation_decision_the_correct_one_dean_writes.html
The York University dean who approved a student’s request to be removed from a group project with women now has “sincere regret” over the controversy, but stands by his decision. In a letter emailed to university colleagues on Jan. 10, 2014, dean of arts Martin Singer said he saw no other option but to approve a controversial request, made on religious grounds, by a student who wanted to avoid a group seminar with women.
In a letter emailed to university colleagues, dean of arts Martin Singer said he saw no other option but to approve the request, made on religious grounds. “I want to assure each of you of my unwavering commitment to gender equity and of my sincere regret that, given the specific circumstances of this request for accommodation, I was obliged to conclude that the student’s request had to be accommodated,” Singer wrote in an email sent Friday. “I wish I had had another choice, but neither I, nor those who advised me, believe that I did.”

What are you about? How are you unique? What is the brand of you?

In today's job market it is not so much about how many degrees and credentials you have behind your name. It boils down to who are you and what can you do to be of service to your employer, a charitable organization or your customers. I would encourage you to ask yourself what are YOU about. How would you describe yourself. What makes you stand apart from others, what are your own unique skills. Take an inventory of all the things you are good at and then craft a commerical about you, make it fun. When you go for interviews promote your brand which is you. Check out this article which gives you an idea of how to go about branding yourself.

It’s much more helpful — in a packaging-yourself way — to think of yourself as a soup. Yes, a soup. A comedown, I know, but stick with me. A soup may be the practical opposite of a brand: dependable where a brand is sexy; endlessly variable instead of hard and fast. But the practicality is the point. In today’s topsy-turvy market, trusty and reliable, flexible and variable are the traits you want to have on offer.
Thinking of yourself in a more humble way will allow you to make very creative decisions about how you present yourself. Yes, those terms sound very “brand”-y, but even soup needs a can and a label.

Do you someone whose behaviour puzzles you?

Check out this article, it may help you to understand some difficult people at home and at work. Culture AlterNet / By Mark Goulston 13 COMMENTS 8 Habits of Intolerant People A psychotherapist makes some observations about people who are quick to anger, resentful and intolerant of others. 13 COMMENTS 13 COMMENTS diggTweet AAAEmailPrintShare Photo Credit: Tom Wang/ Shutterstock.com January 18, 2014 | Like this article?Join our email list:Stay up to date with the latest headlines via email. I find it difficult to believe that there still remain so many people who are intolerant of others; like those who are so vehemently against gay marriage even though other people’s intimate relationships do not directly hurt them. It turns out these people share some similar traits. Over my years as a psychotherapist, I have worked with many people who have personality issues. I have observed the following about those who are quick to anger, resentful and begrudging of others. 1. They are often fanatical. They don’t just believe in something deeply, they believe in something narrowly without room for other interpretations. They believe their view is the only view, and that anything even slightly different is wrong and is the enemy. There is a difference between being devout—in which you deeply believe in something—and being fanatic—in which you're on the attack against those who don’t agree or just see things differently from you. 2. They are usually psychologically rigid. Any other way of looking at things causes them great anxiety, and they will fight with all their will to get others to agree with them. Down deep they are much more concerned with self-preservation and see "different" as a threat to their identity. They view their actions as being in self-defense of what they view as an assault by others with a different POV. 3. They are know-it-alls. They know a lot about a very narrow aspect of life that has possibly provided them with success and they believe it can be applied to everything in life. When challenged they retreat and revisualize how their approach works in that narrow area, and come back at the challenger with even more aggression. 4. They are terrible listeners. Duh! That should be obvious. Rarely do people around them feel listened to, heard, understood or valued for anything that in any way differs from this person’s viewpoint. 5. They often have tension in their relationships. That should come as little surprise, since their having to be in control means they can only be in a relationship with people who obey, agree and are submissive. This often means they have volcanic relationships with their teenage children. 6. They believe you're either in control or out of control. They are black-and-white thinkers with no room for gray. They will not accept that we are not in control of most areas of our lives. For instance, we have some control over what we say and do and write, but we have little control over how it is heard, seen or read. They frequently come from families that were either highly controlling or chaotic. If their parents were highly controlling, they came to believe that was the only way you can and should live your life, and they have “paid it forward” into their own lives. If their parents and families were chaotic, they vowed that when they grew up, there would be much more order to their lives and they have now gone too far. 7. They can’t leave anything to chance. They have a deep-seated belief that if you leave anything to chance, something awful will happen. Albert Einstein said, “The most important decision you will ever make is whether you live in a safe or a dangerous world.” For whatever reason, these individuals believe they live in a dangerous world which justifies their preemptive aggression and hostility toward others because they believe others are primed to attack them (sound like any foreign policy you know?). 8. They are frequently jealous deep-down. This is the most interesting observation. Being envious means wanting what another person has; being jealous means being angry with the person for having it. I think they feel jealous because they are not particularly happy individuals who are frustrated for believing they are following all the rules, yet they are not at peace. So when they see a couple who is willing to defy so many rules and conventions to find true love and be happy, they are not only envious, but are jealous. When it comes to anyone else’s intimate relationship, my philosophy, and I hope how I conduct myself, is to live and let love. Taiwan patients with MS needs to be aware of this

Press Release January 14, 2014 Patients with Multiple Sclerosis in Taiwan May Be at Increased Risk of Developing Cancer Individuals with multiple sclerosis may have an increased risk of developing any type of cancer, with an especially high risk of developing breast cancer. That is the conclusion of a recent study published in European Journal of Neurology. Because the findings contradict earlier studies, additional research is needed to determine whether a true link exists between multiple sclerosis and cancer. Previous research suggests that some individuals with autoimmune diseases may have an increased risk of developing cancer, but most studies have found no link between cancer and multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that involves the central nervous system. To investigate further, Li-Min Sun, MD, of the Zuoying Branch of Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and his colleagues assessed data from the National Health Insurance System of Taiwan, including information on 1292 patients who were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis between 1997 and 2010. Each patient was matched with four participants without the condition. “Our study was a nationwide population-based cohort study, and it revealed unexpected findings,” said Dr. Sun. Specifically, the team found that individuals with multiple sclerosis were 85% more likely to develop cancer than the controls. Their risk of developing breast cancer was especially high, with more than a 2-fold increased risk over controls. The findings suggest that patients with multiple sclerosis patients may need to be monitored closely to ensure early detection of cancer. Dr. Sun notes that it is unclear why his team’s results are not consistent with most other studies. “The underlying genetic and environmental factors in Taiwan, which differ from those of western countries, might play an undetermined role. Additional large-scale studies will help improve our understanding,” he said.

Find your soul mate in 2014

We look here and there to find that one special person we can call our soul mate. Sometimes we find that person and other times we settle for the next best thing just so that we are not alone in life. What if you do not have to settle, what if there is someone waiting just for you but all you need is to be guided to them? Here is an article below that will help you in this quest. Please take a moment to read and be guided thereby. Keep an open mind. You are divinely loved How to Manifest your Dream Guy or Girl Written by Jafree Ozwald www.EnlightenedBeings.com "A soul mate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be." ~ Richard Bach You deserve to be with someone who compliments you, who treats you like royalty and lifts you up with great gentleness when you are down. You could call this other person your best friend, dream lover or perhaps your "Enlightening Soul Mate". What qualifies someone to resonate with you at this caliber is the profound intimate spiritual connection you have with them. There is a natural synchronicity between you, and you have the feeling that the days are truly timeless together. Upon your first meeting you may feel as if you have known each other for many years or lifetimes, and you probably have. You may also feel like you can share anything you are experiencing in your life without editing your words or holding back in any way. There is this simple presence together, and a closeness that allows you to relax with this person and fully be yourself. You may not believe this, yet there is at least one person on the planet right now who totally fits this description of being your soul mate. The good news is that you don't have to struggle, strive and search on internet dating sites for years to locate this person. You have a natural manifesting power inside you that will attract this divine enlightened connection quicker than you think! When you are living with love, joy and appreciation in your heart and you've healed all your past relationship wounding, you become a manifesting magnet for the mate of your dreams! There are many magical things that can miraculously manifest when you open your mind and heart to love. When you are truly surrendered to love, to the source of love within you 24 hours a day, this divine soul connection will spontaneously appear in the most unsuspecting way. "An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight. The truly wise person is color-blind." ~Albert Schweitzer So are you ready to meet your soul mate this week? If not, what are you afraid of? What is really stopping you from being open to this possibility? Often the negative unhealed experiences from the past will block your heart from opening again to trust in love. This fear can create a protective wall around your heart that may blind you from seeing if your soul mate was standing right in front of you. If your heart is still holding onto previous wounds and negative memories from past relationships, you might feel that it's TOO dangerous to trust in love and think its safer to hide behind this wall. The interesting thing is that the walls that are formed around the heart will numb the feelings of pain AND any sensation of being loved. These inner walls block both the positive and negative feelings, leaving you completely unable to have a personal intimate relationship. When this occurs there is only one way out. The key is to let down your guard, be real with yourself and trust the healing process of loving you just as you are. "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." ~Dalai Lama Even though you are a sensitive being and may not think you have a steel blockade around your heart, you can always choose to practice letting in even more love. The melting and healing of the smallest self-sabotaging thoughts that arise can allow for buckets of deep joy to pour into your heart. One of the greatest keys to manifesting an enlightened loving being is radical honesty with yourself. Ask yourself, "How far along am I on my spiritual path?". One simple gauge for this is noticing the level of compassion you have for yourself, your beloved, and everyone else in the world. If you have tremendous love, respect and gentleness with yourself, you are making it 1000 times easier for others to find love for you. A heart overflowing with constant compassion for yourself and others becomes a giant magnet for attracting that enlightened divine lover from your outer world. The greatest blessing of all, is when this inner gentleness becomes a addictive habit, and you become the healing master of your life. "Soul mates are people who bring out the best in you. They are not perfect but are always perfect for you." ~ Author Unknown If you'd like to experience a dramatic shift in your ability to attract your soul mate to you, today is your lucky day! I have created a NEW Enlightening Guided Manifesting Meditation Experience that will help you to heal your heart and raise your vibration so that you attract your soul mate into your life! This experience will reprogram your subconscious mind to naturally attract your soul mate with effortless ease. You will remove the walls around your heart so you are ready to receive the love life of your dreams! This is your chance to open your heart and soul with this new ability to trust life, experience deep love and true connection in an intimate relationship. Enjoy!
