EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Neighborhood Resource Coordinator (.8 FTE) North Point Douglas Women’s Centre - Winnipeg, MB Closing Date: Jan.20, 2014 The Neighborhood Resource Coordinator (NRC) works directly and cooperatively with the Drop In Coordinator and is responsible both for maintaining services and programs in the Drop In Centre (including advocacy support for participants) and for coordinating the Volunteer Program. Qualifications • Commitment to the mission, vision and guiding principles of the North Point Douglas Women’s Centre. • Experience in coordination and management of volunteers • Experience in the social service sector or other suitable combinations of education and lived experience. • Knowledge of issues facing women and their families in the North Point Douglas community. • Entry level counseling program or equivalent in experience • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills • Experience working as part of a team • Basic computer skills. Responsibilities • Providing basic needs services, as well as program planning and delivery in the Drop In Centre • Supporting participants with information, advocacy, referrals and crisis counseling • Networking with like-minded agencies to provide resource support to participants. Such networks include: North End Community Helpers Network, EIA Advocate Network, CFS Advocate Network, MAVA (Manitoba Association for Volunteer Administration) • Coordinating volunteers for both the Drop In Centre and Special Events: recruiting, screening, training, orienting, placing, supporting, and appreciating volunteers • Coordinating the Ambassador Program (a team of 30-40 hosts for our Annual Fundraising Gala) • Maintaining confidentiality with respect to participant and organizational business • Using appropriate conflict resolution skills to maintain a respectful Drop In Centre About NPDWC The North Point Douglas Women’s Centre (NPDWC) exists to create opportunities for women to develop their potential and engage fully as citizens of their community. Working towards a safe, healthy, vibrant community for women and families in which all forms of violence against women are addressed by engaging the community in prevention and remediation strategies, NPDWC has a team of 13 passionate, caring and compassionate staff. Established in 2000 to address poverty-related issues, the Women’s Centre has become a hub that operates 6 days a week where women and their families can gather in a safe and supportive environment and learn to recognize and build on their existing skills. **It is a bona fide occupational requirement that this position is filled by a woman.
