Job vacancy - Case Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION Case Worker and Community Resolution Centre Outreach Worker Synopsis: Working in a collaborative setting, the person filling this role is involved in casework (intake, assessment, preparation, facilitation of processes and follow-up) and representing and promoting Mediation Services and teaching Restorative Justice processes in various community settings. Qualifications: - Thorough understanding of the principles of Restorative Justice. - Presentation skills – ability to develop and deliver oral and written reports and presentations clearly, concisely, and with enthusiasm; ability to adapt presentations to specific audiences. - Knowledge and experience in case development processes, administration and documentation. - Training and experience in mediation and other dispute resolution techniques. - Strong communication skills, ability to initiate and manage difficult conversations, good telephone manner, strong one-on-one relational skills. - Capacity to work independently and as part of a team. - Ability to relate to many people and people from diverse backgrounds. - Understand and relate well to volunteers - Commitment to ongoing learning - High self-awareness - Computer skills Duties: - Initiate, coordinate and lead information sessions to community groups, 311, police, and other interested parties. - responsible for assigned cases from intake to follow-up, determining and implementing appropriate Restorative Justice options. - work with volunteer mediators/facilitators for mediation process (including preparing and debriefing) where applicable - develop and maintain accurate records including file notes, communications notes, process records, and time records - follow-up on recommendations, monitor agreements, receive restitution payments and/or support arrangements of the agreement as appropriate - collaborate with, and support other staff, interns, and practicum students in reviewing and developing casework; discussing and sharing learnings from experiences - participate in caseworker meetings and staff meetings - be a strong advocate of Mediation Services: a) build relationships wherever possible; b) assist in Mediation Services functions and events; c) make presentations on behalf of MS and its programs; d) assist in development and presentation of proposals and reports to key funders; e) solicit information on funding proposals, possible members, and other related opportunities - participate as coach and/or facilitator in selected trainings - commit to professional development - other tasks as requested Challenges: This role requires a person with a diverse set of skills, one who thrives in an environment where multi-tasking is the norm! He/She must be adept and experienced in making presentations in front of groups of all sizes as well as be able to work comfortably in one-on-one situations.
