BreastCheck, CCMB received funding from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Prairies/NWT Region to complete

a project directed at increasing awareness about breast health, breast cancer, and breast screening in Manitoba’s

First Nations population. The First Nations, Metis and Inuit Cancer Control (FNMICC) Unit and BreastCheck invite

applications for the position of:


Community Health Worker Facilitator



Contract (up to 1184 hours)

To be completed between June 9, 2014, and February 27, 2015

Rate of pay $25 per hour

Closing Date: May 26, 2014

The goal of the project is to build relationships with communities to develop culturally responsive resources and

increase breast cancer screening participation rates among Manitoba First Nations people. The Community Health

Worker Facilitator (CHWF) will use a community strengths based approach when working with health care workers

(CHR’s, CHW’s, NIC’s, etc.) from several Manitoba First Nations communities. Working in partnership with the

FNMICC Unit, BreastCheck and communities, the CHWF will develop an information tool kit to be used by health care

workers across the province when talking to First Nations women about breast cancer screening.


Qualifications: The successful contractor will be knowledgeable and passionate about First Nations women’s health




issues, be able to work effectively as part of a team, be comfortable working with the public, and be able to maintain

confidentiality. Previous experience in community-based facilitation or adult education delivery is required. Previous

experience in educational resource development would be an asset. The contractor must be willing to travel

occasionally within Manitoba. A current driver’s license is required and access to a vehicle for work purposes would

be beneficial. Some evening and weekend work may be required depending on community needs.
