Education Director:
The Education Director is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all programs of the adult literacy centre in accordance to the Adult Literacy Act. In addition, the ED is responsible for the welfare of learners, staff and volunteers, budget planning and administration.
The literacy program is currently a part-time program. Learners attend Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9:30 am-12:30pm and 1:15pm – 4:15pm and runs from September – June. The Education Director is expected to be at the centre Monday-Thursday from 9 am – 4:30 pm with the expectation that the ED will work additional hours to meet with students and staff as necessary, will have to work some evenings and Fridays for board meetings and other meetings; as well as during the summer to complete reports and/or other matters dealing with the centre. Compensation is included in salary.

The successful candidate will have:
  • A progressive vision of adult education
  • Successful experience in administration and/or program coordination
  • Experience teaching and working with adults
  • Familiarity with the adult learner landscape in Manitoba
  • Thorough knowledge of the Manitoba Stages Framework, MALLA
  • Understanding of valid assessment practices (CARA, DALLA)
  • Practical knowledge of adult learning principles
Educational Qualifications and Experience:
  • Masters Degree or higher in Adult Education; OR
  • Bachelor of Education of Education degree plus a certificate, diploma or degree in adult education; OR
  • Other appropriate educational credentials deemed valid according to The Adult Literacy Act
  • Manitoba teacher certificate preferred
  • Three to five years experience working with adults in an adult education setting
  • Experience with preparing budgets, grant writing, reporting to Board of directors
  • Understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Experience working with marginalized communities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in adult literacy preferred
  • Experience in non-profit sector preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of Manitoba Stages Framework  & the Adult Literacy Act preferred
