Osborne House is seeking a Children’s Activity Worker. Responsible to the Director and directly supervised by the Osborne House Supervisors, the Children’s Activity Worker will develop programs, plan and implement special activities for children affected by domestic violence. The activities will promote positive self esteem in children and provide an enriching experience for children while at Osborne House. The Children’s Activity Worker guides children’s behaviour within the policies and procedures of Osborne House Inc.



Qualifications:

A natural ability to set goals and achieve outcomes through creative activities for children.

Ability to develop and create activities for children with an emphasis on growth, development and positive behaviour.

Satisfactory completion of course work in human development and interpersonal communication skills would be an asset.

Minimum 1 year supervised experience working with children.

Understanding of the impact of family violence on children and the family unit.

Ability to work under pressure and balance competing demands for time.

Knowledge of parenting issues and resources.

Clear understanding of confidentiality and the dynamics of a "supportive" relationship with clients of Osborne House.

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

Good problem solving skills

Knowledge of community resources

Good understanding of non-violent behaviour management techniques

Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal daily supervision

Flexibility to meet the needs of the facility

Ability to work evening, weekends and statutory holidays

Current CPR, Emergency First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification.

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Criminal Record Check. And Child Abuse Registry Check.

Employment Opportunities: North End Women’s Centre is seeking a Community Economic Development (CED) Manager. The CED Manager reports to the Executive Director; is a member of the Management Team; and oversees the Community Development and Community Economic Development Programs of the North End Women’s Centre. The successful candidate will have following the qualifications, experience and skills: post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services, administration, or business fields; experience in retail and/or social enterprise; management with a demonstrated knowledge of communications and marketing strategies; minimum 2 years experience supervising staff and/or volunteers; demonstrated ability to develop and implement employment and/or volunteer programs for women facing multiple barriers; knowledge of, and experience working with, Aboriginal people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers Aboriginal women face; knowledge of the impacts of poverty, addictions, violence, and dependency on women; knowledge of the Community Economic Development principles and the resources available to women in the North End; strong time management, organizational, decision making, and problem solving skills; extensive computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of social media and website development/maintenance; exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
