Adult EAL Program for Newcomers at the University of Manitoba
English Language Studies invites applications for a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator in its Adult EAL Program for Newcomers. The Community Outreach Coordinator will connect students to employment resources, pathways to employment and educational opportunities as well as facilitate the integration of newcomers into communities and promote cross-cultural awareness and understanding. The position may include an instruction component in the future.
Dates: Feb 10, 2014 – March 28, 2014 (continuation dependent on funding)
Location: Massey Building, 294 William Avenue
Schedule: 20 hours/week, predominantly in mornings
Salary range: $3,500-$3,750 ($20-21.5k/year) depending on experience
Responsibilities:
• Offer career counseling to students in the program.
• Make referrals for students to community, educational and employment organizations.
• Build a network of employers and employees in fields that our students aim to be employed in.
• Establish and launch a mentorship program to assist students with their integration into communities (20 mentorships/year)
• Organize and coordinate the annual career fair to connect students with employers and post-secondary education programs.
• Organize extra-curricular family programming for students and their immediate families
Qualifications:
• Experience working with adult newcomers
• Experience in career/employment counseling or a related field
• An undergraduate degree in a related field
• MS Office proficiency is required.
• CTESL an asset
