N.E.E.D.S. Inc. is pleased to invite applications for the following position:
INTRO Program Facilitator / Instructor (full time, 35 hrs/wk)
The INTRO Program provides support to newly arrived refugee youth (ages 6-18) and their families during their first year in Canada. This is done through orientation workshops, school visits, mentorship and family support.
INTRO Program Facilitator/Instructor Responsibilities:
• Facilitating orientation curriculum to newly arrived newcomer children and youth
• Completing language and academic assessments (for clients aged 6 to 18)
• Assisting in youth’s transition into the Canadian education system and integration into Canadian society.
• Developing relationships with newcomer children and youth and their families
• Classroom and behaviour management
• Assisting in the planning, developing and implementation of INTRO Program components
• Keeping accurate daily records of participants including registration and attendance
• Completing intake assessments on newly registered clients
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and / or a college diploma (i.e.: Education, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, etc.)
• Experience working with children and youth
• Experience in program development and facilitation
• Ability to work cross-culturally with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
• Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
• Excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills
• Ability to provide a current criminal record check and child abuse registry check
• Self-motivated and able to manage a flexible work schedule (some evenings and weekends required)
Assets:
• Experience working with newcomer children and youth
• Understanding of settlement challenges and barriers that exist for newcomer youth and their families
• Additional languages
• Class 4 Drivers License
• Current First aid, CPR training
