Duties: Reporting to the Manager, Materials Management, the Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement of a wide variety of assigned commodities including: review and edit requisitions; research and promote environmentally preferred goods and services; ensure all policies and guidelines are adhered to; advertise requirements on an electronic tendering system or issue tenders directly to vendors; review and evaluate tenders; negotiate price, terms and conditions for agreements and contracts; provide assistance to user departments in the preparation of complex requisitions; interview trade representatives and visit vendor plants, warehouses and facilities; establish and maintain effective working relations with all clients and vendors.
Qualifications
Required:
Must be enrolled in the Purchasing Management of Canada (PMAC) development program and/or have relevant post-secondary education with procurement experience
Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to work in a team environment
Proficient in Word and Excel
Valid Manitoba driver’s license
Cultural sensitivity
Commitment to lifelong learning
Assets:
General knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System
