Job Overview:
To provide quality care with a child-centred approach to the children participating in the Childcare for Newcomer Children (CNC) program ensuring health and safety. The Infant Room Child Care Worker in the English as an Additional Language Program is responsible for the care of children aged 6 – 18 months in a parent-on-site, license-not-required setting.
Role and Responsibilities:
Follow all CNC requirements
In collaboration with the childcare team, develop a multicultural and age-appropriate programme for children of parents attending the EAL program
Prepare the room before the children arrive and secure everything before leaving
Interact directly with the children in playing, singing, reading, exercising, crafts
Create an environment that fosters positive self-concept and reflects the cultural diversity of the children
Work with the other staff members to plan and implement activities which will support and encourage English language learning while valuing and maintaining the first language
Qualifications:
Early Childhood Education Level II Diploma or in the process of training with completion expected before March 31, 2014
Valid First Aid Certificate – Level B CPR
Valid Criminal Record Check, and clear Child Abuse Registry Check
Experience working with Infants aged 6 months – 18 months
Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
Ability/experience working in a multicultural environment
Knowledge of a language other than English an asset
Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of immigrant families
Strength stamina and ability to work with active, young children
Demonstrated strong ability to work as a member of a small team
Job Details:
Location: River Heights – Bethel Mennonite Church 465 Stafford Avenue
Schedule: 10 hours per week from September – June with unpaid school breaks. M/T/Th/F
mornings from 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Salary: $17.05-$18.63 per hour
