Manitoba Health, in partnership with Manitoba Immigration and Multiculturalism, is just about to launch the much anticipated Health Qualification Recognition Navigator service. Bose Agbayewa, one of the Navigators, is set to meet with clients as of August 20th.
We are looking for one more individual to join the team.
The service is intended to help Internationally Educated Health Professionals navigate the path to registration and labour market integration. The Health QR Navigators will help individuals to make informed choices and plans towards professional registration and/or meaningful alternatives; this could include considerations for choosing interim employment as well.
We are looking for an exceptional individual: bright, analytical and good with people. We hope to have the new Health QR Navigator in place to coincide with the service delivery start date as closely as possible.

Teaching hours: 20 – 26 hours per week; classes run Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: University of Manitoba, Fort Garry campus
The responsibilities of the position include planning and delivering ESL courses in the Intensive English Program, preparing supplementary course materials, creating tests and formal assessments, and providing regular feedback to students on their progress.
Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Education degree or a combination of a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL) from a TESL Canada recognized institution. A minimum of one year teaching experience in English as a Second Language programs is required. The applicant must be familiar with ESL teaching methodology, and demonstrate an innovative and creative teaching spirit. It is essential for the applicant to be versatile and competent in teaching students at a low beginner, intermediate and advanced level of English proficiency. Also required are excellent communication skills, demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences, and demonstrated ability to work in a team-teaching environment.

The North Point Douglas Women’s Centre (NPDWC) is seeking an Executive Director.
The Executive Director leads and manages the overall operations of NPDWC and supports the Board of Directors in effectively governing the Centre. By working closely with the volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive Director will establish the strategic direction of NPDWC and lead the organization in achieving its operational plans, goals and specific objectives.
Experience and education needed for this role include:
· a post-secondary degree in social work, psychology, sociology or an equivalent discipline;
· specialized training in administrative and financial management (including the use of QuickBooks financial software or equivalent), especially pertaining to grants funding, budget management and the financial management of not-for-profit organizations;
· seven to ten years of progressive responsibility managing social and/or community development programs with a focus on the social determinants of health, social justice, safety and crime/violence-prevention;
· counselling related to the experience of violence, effective parenting, job readiness and employability skills, life skills counselling, and/or the elimination of poverty and the provision of basic human needs;
· a history of successfully supporting volunteers and staff, especially a volunteer Board of Directors and/or volunteer committees, and volunteers or staff directly engaged in providing social services support and counselling services;
· the ability to produce information and facilitate communication using common technology tools (computer hardware and software, mobile communications technologies, and business machines such as copiers, printers, scanners, etc.).

Province Investing in Foreign Credential Recognition: Ministers
Manitoba is investing $1.4 million over two years to improve the recognition of foreign credentials and get people working more quickly, Advanced Education and Literacy Minister Erin Selby and Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Christine Melnick announced today.
“The Manitoba government has been working to improve the recognition of foreign credentials, allowing new Manitobans the ability to put their education and experience to use sooner and establish successful careers in our province,” said Selby. “Today, we’re announcing new supports for our universities and colleges to work with trained and talented newcomers to put their skills to work. It’s good for our economy and it means newcomers can more quickly put down roots in Manitoba.”
This initiative will fund pilot programs designed to assist internationally educated newcomers get their professional qualifications recognized quickly and transition smoothly into the work force.
The programs will be determined through a recently launched call for proposals (CFP). The CFP will be open to Manitoba’s public post-secondary institutions and will be targeted at science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health and trades.
“Internationally trained professionals have a wide range of talents, education and experiences, and represent a significant pool of skilled labour,” said Melnick. “By providing programs to help them integrate more quickly into the labour market, Manitoba can benefit from their skills and reduce labour shortages”
Under the previous project, bridge programs were offered for construction electricians, professional accountants, information technology professionals and financial services.

POSITION TITLE: Orientation Facilitator (0.28 EFT)
REPORTS TO: Manager- ENTRY PROGRAM FOR OLDER ADULT IMMIGRANTS
UNION AFFILIATION: CUPE Local 2348
SALARY: $15.72 – 17.45 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Orientation Facilitator will work under the supervision of the Manager of the Entry Program for Older Adult Immigrants’ in cooperation with the EAL* Specialist. The Facilitator is responsible for facilitating Entry sessions as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in training sessions offered by the EAL* specialist prior to facilitating sessions
- Prior to sessions, obtain materials and handouts as prepared by the EAL* specialist.
- Facilitate the Entry sessions using resource kits developed by the Manager and EAL* Specialist for a ten week period offered twice a week
4. Report progress of sessions on a regular basis to the specialist
5. Attend various meetings at the request of the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Graduation from high school OR Certificate in Aging OR related education
- Experience with group facilitation for older adults
- Familiarity with the topics of interest and importance to older adult immigrants
- Experience working in a cross cultural / EAL* setting is an asset
